MH370 Decoded: Tooltips

This website is sub-titled MH370 Decoded.

One way the complexity of flight MH370 is simplified or decoded is the use of Tooltips[1].

A Tooltip is some additional information which appears on the screen when the cursor or mouse pointer is placed over some text which is faintly underlined.

Tooltips have been created from the Glossary included in each official Report so that when reading an article which contains a quote from a Report, the meaning of a term is available in context, where it is needed.

Tooltips are so useful they have also been created to decode other information such as the Flight Plan as described below.

Glossary

A glossary has been compiled from several sources - see the article Glossary - which use terminology from the aviation industry; communications including SATCOM or satellite communications; radar and how MH370 was tracked by civilian and military radar; the underwater search for MH370 with terms like bathymetry; and more.

But this Glossary is only part of the full list of Tooltips.

Other Topics

Tooltips have been added to assist with many other topics including these:-

Example - Tooltips and the Flight Plan

The following is a text version of the Filed Flight Plan for MH370.

Mouse over any faint underlined text to reveal the meaning.

Links

Some Tooltips contain a link to a related article which provides more information. For example, BTO and BFO.

Sources

Some Tooltips refer to the information source. It is not practical to provide that information for every item. The Glossary page lists the main sources of terms and definitions used within the Glosary.

Duplicates

Within the Glossary some terms appear more than once. This is because variations of the term may appear in text in different places.

For example, the word tooltip may also be capitalised like this Tooltip or 'plural' like this tooltips.

Unexpected results

Occasionally there are unexpected results with Tooltips providing 'help' for an item which matches the criteria but in the wrong context.

These events are not common and are corrected whenever noticed.
