Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17

On Thursday, 17 July 2014 a Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 on Flight MH17 from Holland to Malaysia was shot down over Ukraine. There were no survivors.

This section of a website primarily focussed on flight MH370 has been developed because the two disasters intersect: the aircraft were flown by the same carrier, Malaysia Airlines; the aircraft were similar, both Boeing 777s; many of the officials who were coping with the loss of MH370 were drawn into the horrors of flight MH17; and over time records relating to MH17, like official media statements which were archived have been located during research for MH370.

Yet the two tragedies have significant differences: what happened on flight MH370 may remain unknown forever and the wreckage has not been located; but MH17 was observed as it fell from the sky, the wreckage was located immediately, human remains and artifacts were recoverable, and the parallel investigations (ICAO and Criminal) have been completed. But until MH370 is found, or justice is accomplished (MH17), both tragedies remain without closure.

During the process of building this website for MH370 many documents related to MH17 were also located.
