US Airways Flight 1549 - the Miracle on the Hudson

When Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger ditched a US Airways Airbus A320 on the Hudson River, New York, on 15 January 2009 he became revered among pilots, and well known following the release of the film Sully starring Tom Hanks.

Captain Zaharie Shah would have known about this incident and, with similar hours as a commercial pilot, could reasonably be capable of ditching the Boeing 777 he was flying, as Pilot-in-Command of flight MH370. He was also had a model seaplane, a PBY Catalina.

Unfortunately, the southern Indian Ocean is not as calm as the Hudson River. It also unknown whether the pilot(s) of MH370 (or anyone) was conscious when it ran out of fuel and crashed.
