Thursday, August 14, 10:15 AM GMT +0800 Malaysian Prime Minister Comments On MH17 Bilateral Agreement Between Ukraine And Malaysia

In recent days, Prime Minister Najib Razak has held meetings with European governments to discuss the MH17 situation. Following discussions between the Prime Minister and President Petro Poroshenko of Ukraine, the Ukraine Parliament yesterday ratified a bilateral agreement providing for the deployment of Malaysian personnel at the MH17 crash site.

The agreement allows up to 90 Malaysian non-military personnel to join the Dutch-led team to facilitate the recovery of remains and conduct the investigation called for in the UN Security Council Resolution 2166.

Prior to ratification of this agreement, Malaysian police and investigators had conducted operations at the crash site. Due to unsafe conditions, the personnel were unable to remain at the site.

Speaking earlier today, Prime Minister Najib Razak said:
“I welcome this bilateral agreement, which formally authorizes the deployment of Malaysian personnel at the site. Now is the time to make it count.
I implore all parties to cease fighting and allow the international team of investigators safe and unfettered access to the crash site”.
