Douglas DC-3

The Douglas DC-3 is an iconic twin-engine propellor-driven aircraft which has interested many aviation enthusiasts, including Captain Zaharie Shah.

Enhthusiasts' Website

A website named The DC-3 Hangar (https://www.douglasdc3.com) has an amazing collection of images, stories and profiles of the Douglas DC-3.

Captain Zaharie Shah's Flight Simulator and a DC-3

Evidence recovered from Captain Shah's personal flight simulator showed that he had 'flown' a simulated DC-3 at Yellowknife in Canada indicating his personal interest in the DC-3 and an incident involving a Buffalo Airways DC-3C registered C-GWIR which crashed on 19 August 2013, with no casualties. See the article Buffalo Airways Douglas DC-3C Incident (2013).

A snapshot of the enthusiast's website The DC-3 Hangar captured on 2 January 2014 shows what the site would have looked like if viewed by Captain Shah before flight MH370. In this snapshot is an article Buffalo Airways and the DC-3, which seems similar to a current (2025) version https://www.douglasdc3.com/buff/buffalo.htm. Neither version describes the 2013 incident.

Enthusiasts have uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons website many images of, and related to, DC-3 aircraft. Four have been selected (below).

Very few DC-3 aircraft are still airworthy. Complete aircraft are mostly found in fixed outdoor displays or in aircraft museums.
