Fariq Hamid was the the First Officer, or co-pilot, on Malaysia Airlines flight MH370. Fariq was 27 and engaged to be married.

Fariq joined Malaysia Airlines in 2007 and trained at the Langkawi Aerospace Training Centre. He was promoted to First Officer in 2010 and flew on Boeing 737 and the Airbus A330. He was transitioning to the Boeing 777 aircraft and had completed five flights with a check pilot.

On Flight MH370, Fariq was supervised by the Pilot-in-Command, Captain Zaharie Shah. Captain Shah was a Type Rating Instructor and a Type rating Examiner for the Boeing 777.

Prior to departure from Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Saturday, 8 March 2014, Captain Shah manoeuvred the aircraft from the terminal to the runway (company policy) and transferred control to Hamid.

Fariq Hamid was the pilot flying Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 9M-MRO on flight MH370 on the flight plan route from departure at least as far as the waypoint IGARI over the South China Sea.
